weekend fishing trip

14 Oct

On Saturday morning, Andrew and I spent the morning at the local Scout Council’s “Fishing Fun Day” at a small scout camp near our house. It was Andrew’s first fishing trip ever, and overall, he had a great time. Mostly because this was the result of his second cast into the small pond we were working:

That’s a REALLY BIG sunfish, over six inches long, and weighing close to a pound. The boy’s first fish ever, documented here for all to see.

Over the next couple of hours, he hooked two more, a baby largemouth bass and another sunfish (which he actually caught on my rod when I handed it to him while I got his worm re-aligned). I managed one itty-bitty bluegill in our closing moments on the pond, but Andrew was the angling hero of the day. We hadn’t talked to anyone else who caught more than he did.

Like I said, we both had a really good time; hopefully there’ll be more of these trips in the future.
