the simple joy of processed air

20 Jun

yeah, wrong 'ah, air!', but still kind of appropriate

The fancy new central air/heat pump system is finally installed. It is now 76° F and falling, and all of my windows are closed. Once more, I am ensconced within my mostly hermetically sealed, climate-controlled bubble, and my sinuses are no longer subject to the whims of the ever-encroaching pollen just outside the walls.

It feels good. Really good. Not necessarily good for the wallet, but otherwise, pretty good.

I also spent most of the day at work calling the laptop pool guys, leaving messages, waiting for the call that never came, then calling again, in hopes that one might come and bring me a new box before it was time to leave for the day (and would not return to that particular office for a week).

The dude finally showed an hour before quittin’ time, and brought with him a kickin’ new flat-black gateway widescreen notebook PC with a dual core processor, which made the injustices I’d suffered thus far somewhat easier to forgive. We also had a good time talking geek (much to the confusion of my luddite cubemate), reminiscing about the cool Thinkpads the agency used to hand out, and our favored linux distributions.

In any case, the week’s now over, and we have some plans with reasonably cool potential lined up for the weekend…time to pick out which polyhedrals feel the luckiest!
