nostalgia can be scary indeed

One of the benefits/drawbacks of broadband internet is the fact that you can get completely freakin’ lost clicking link after link on youtube. Follow a link to a kitten video on cute overload, and before you know it, you’ve killed forty minutes watching japanese toy commercials from twenty years ago.

You know, I can’t even remember how I stumbled upon this one the other day, but somehow Colleen and I spent a good hour flipping through videos from saturday morning 80s staple
Kids Incorporated. Just about everybody my age watched this show at one point or another, because when I was ten years old, there was nothing else on television.

It’s not surprising that most of the show just doesn’t hold up – it’s principle value today is nostalgia, since several of the “kids” went on to have actual careers in music and film, such as Martika, Jennifer Love Hewitt, that kid from “The Monster Squad”, and, of course, Fergie.

Back then, she was a poofy-haired little moppet known as Stacey Ferguson. Watching these videos today proves that methamphetamine must be one hell of a drug, because when she was a pre-teen, Fergie could actually sing, speak, and rhyme words that end with something other than “-ous”. “Drugs are bad, mmmkay?”

Still, after watching this video, I can almost understand why little Stacey turned to drugs – that clown is creepy, and I don’t think I want to know what his intentions were with that broom.

Without further ado, I give you the stuff of nightmares, Say You, Say Me

can’t sleep, clown will eat me
