friday random ten: “inaugural” edition
I’m getting ready to leave DC just as millions of others are coming in for this weekend’s pre-inaugural festivities. While the big free show on Sunday at Lincoln sounds like it might be a really good time (Springsteen! U2! Mellencamp!), I don’t think I’m quite up to all the complications inherent in crowding more than five million people into such a small space, even if it is a Big Damned Piece of History™.
So, I shall go home, enjoy my family’s company, take care of some life things, and watch the Eagles (hopefully) turn the Cardinals into a smooth red paste on Sunday afternoon, perhaps while enjoying a cold, hoppy, beverage.
Until then, here’s a playlist pulled from my laptop hard drive Thursday evening:
- "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" – Vampire Weekend
- "Down With the King" – Run DMC
- "Paddy’s Lament" – Flogging Molly
- "Unfinished Sympathy" – Massive Attack
- "The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine" – Spoon
- "Fall to Pieces" – Avril Lavigne
- "Something to Hold Onto" – The Wailin’ Jennys
- "Red Right Ankle" – The Decembrists
- "One Step Beyond" – Madness
- "Think of England" – The Clarks
