and baby makes…five??!!!
I got a new toy in the mail today. In fact, I’m typing up this post on it now, and mostly managing to be reasonably accurate on it’s tiny little keyboard (except for when I need an apostrophe, since it’s been moved down by the space bar to save space). I give you…
The Dell Mini 9 Netbook
It’s the little one on the right; a nine inch screen. It’s presented next to it’s big sister, Colleen’s 1525n, fifteen inches to the Mini’s nine, for scale.
It was on sale about two weeks back, and I couldn’t resist it’s charms. It’s cute, it’s light, uses very little power, and is just perfect for quick email checks and web browsing. It doesn’t have a whole lot of storage on board, but it’s really not supposed to. Still, the machine is probably a full order of magnitude more powerful than my old desktop box.
Of course, now there are five computers in this house…plus a handful of other internet-enabled gadgets. Is that too many?
Never too many! Funny thing is that many are hacking their mini’s to run MacOSX…you?
March 17th, 2009 at 4:19 PMI considered doing the hackintosh thing, but upping the specs to do it effectively was a little too rich for me; 1 gig RAM, 8 gig SSD storage, and ubuntu netbook remix does me just fine.

March 18th, 2009 at 6:26 AMthere is something rather MI6 Q branch about a tiny, powerful pocket computer, isn’t there? I guess it could make stealthily sniffing for unsecured wireless points out in the wild a bit easier.
It’s a shame, though, that the satellite-targeted deuturium-flouride laser weapon (pocket sized) peripheral was just too damned expensive for me this time around.
Maybe next time.
