friday random ten – “long week(end)” edition
So yes, I only work four days per week (never mind that it’s ten hours per day). Doesn’t matter, I sit here on Friday morning, paying my bills, and I can’t help but reflect that this was one long week, at least from the point of view of this observer. Relativity in action, folks, look it up.
Wasn’t a bad week, per se; just busy and time dialated. Some cool stuff happened, though. I played music with people and had a good time of it, and there’s more music to play on the horizon that I’m looking forward to. I also had my new computer delivered. The old laptop (which I’m typing on now), is nearly a decade old, and is feeling it’s age. So, I ordered a new one. A Dell XPS 15. Fancy aluminum chassis, a video card more powerful than my gaming/multimedia rig upstairs, and enough juice to get me through another ten years of computing, especially once I start really hacking on it once the warranty’s expired. There’s dual booting and linux gaming in my future. For now, though, I’m happy to be able to run Ben Grimm and Deadpool around on the Marvel Heroes MMO in the living room, rather than in the office (I’m cphaurckker there, if you play, and are looking for a hero to run around with – and even if you don’t, it’s free-to-play – why not give it a try? I’ve got a couple of level one hero drop toons I haven’t used yet who’d be happy to accompany you).
And yeah, there was that election. I’m generally happy with Virginia’s results – McAulliffe will probably be a decent administrator, though he’s not the kind of candidate I could get excited about. Once again, I was voting against someone rather than for someone, but hey, when you can’t get enthusiastic, you get pragmatic. Still watching the Attorney General race, as it’s within a few hundred votes, and headed to recount; could go either way. Also once again, as my House of Delegates race featured an unopposed Republican, I once again wrote in my spouse. One of these years, maybe she’ll actually run.
Finally, I have a huge honking band-aid on my face. A cat, big and fluffy except for some very sharp claws, somehow landed on my face last night as I was sleeping, and put a nice scratch/gaping wound under my left eye. If it scars, I’ll have a bit more character, I guess.
Not much on the agenda today. Paying bills, making the Costco run, and, if my reserve comes in, hitting the library (Catherine also wants her own library card, so we’ll do that). There’s talk tomorrow of a bunch of us heading out to cinemas to screen Thor: The Dark World at some point, but that’s still up in the air. In any case, I’m looking forward to it. Also, it’s a long weekend, thanks to Veteran’s Day on Monday, making my weekend just as long as my week this time around. Somehow, I expect the weekend will feel much shorter.
In the meantime, here are some tunes to kick off your Friday.
