futher crappy adventures in home ownership
The (I’m led to understand; I wasn’t there) nice and polite HVAC guy visited on Wednesday, and informed us that our aging and basic central air system had blown a compressor. It’s dead. Shuffled off the mortal coil (though the heating coil is supposedly okay), joined the choir invisible, pining for the fjords.
Damn. I really didn’t need this right after putting in the new driveway.
A new compressor costs almost as much as the driveway did. It’ll do the job, but it’s basically just dragging on the life of twenty-year old tech. For a little bit more, however, I can get a whole new system, that will be much more efficient that the system we have, and, thanks to a long-term warranty and a more recognizable brand name, will add actual value to the home when it comes time to sell it. It’ll cost more now, but I’ll get most of that money back in lower utility bills and a better eventual selling price for the house. It’s not ideal, but we can handle it.
So, I guess it’s time for a much needed upgrade. I just wish it wasn’t time right now
