no more dampness…also, a charitable tax deduction
I hung a clothesline yesterday in desperation to dry the clothes that were spinning and not drying. I was going to wait until next weekend to take care of the dryer business (as far as I can tell, it’s the heating element that’s shot – I smelled something funny briefly on Friday afternoon), and dry stuff in the pollensunshine until then, but woke up this morning to sleet, snow, and rain (when it was 80 degrees and sunny Friday…), with little else in the forecast for the next several days.
That wasn’t going to work, given that we have three kids who trash everything they wear, and a dog who can’t seem to not pee the bed every night.
So, I got a new dryer at Home Depot today, cheap, thanks to 120 bucks in gift cards I had lying around, and it fit in my little Pontiac. It’s a step up from what we had (seriously, the dead one had one dial that said “more dry” and “less dry”), holds more clothes, and actually takes up less space.
The old one’s in the driveway now. I’ll have the “we take dead appliances and fix them and give them to poor people” folks come and pick it up this week.
So, uh, yay.
And we might even get the kids to clean their rooms…they immediately turned the empty dryer box into a fort in the middle of my kitchen, which isn’t going to work long term. We told them, however, that if they get a bedroom clean, they can keep their fort up there as long as they like.
And they’re actually doing it!
As the philosopher Hannibal Smith often said, “I love it when a plan comes together”.
