Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Sadly, the work day didn’t feel that way.

On a not entirely unrelated note, I’ve come to a conclusion about why I so enjoy the television program Glee: It’s because it’s really the saddest show on television. All the happy, smiling performances are the characters merely trying to ignore the utter sadness and futility of their small-town lives for a little while.
And yeah, I like the sarcasm, snark, and ham-handed music, but mostly, it’s the despair that ties it all together.
